As I’ve said in earlier posts, it’s very exciting to plow into Chapter one after 3 months in Doctor Kaiper’s office. With page 13 we are introduced to a new character named Leeda, who is about to learn some amazing new things. I’ve considered adding character descriptions to the website, but I’ve resisted it because I can’t think of a way to do it without spoiling plot points. If I can work around that, I would love to describe some of the backgrounds of these people in more depth than will be possible in the framework of the story itself.

As for the technical execution of page 13, I followed the same technique as the previous twelve pages, but I applied a number of filters to panels 1, 2 and 5. I wanted to create a TV-monitor effect. I did this, by applying the Texturizer filter in Photoshop with a brick pattern. I then applied a motion blur at 90 degrees (in line with the grain of the brick texture). I then took this work layer and selectively masked it with an airbrush to make the texture more irregular. Finally, I applied the shear distortion filter to everything to give it that wavy appearance.
